Nature Connect
In Fall 2021, GIRL Project hosted weekly after-school programming at the San Antonio Park. Each Wednesday, we were joined by youth from Roosevelt Middle School. Each session began with a culturally diverse meal including tamales, lumpia, and burritos. The youth participated in various art activities such as painting personalized tote bags, making papel picado, dancing, and painting rocks. Each week we took time for self-empowerment and reflection. The program culminated in a Día de los Muertos celebration in November where we feasted on tamales, lumpia, Day of the Dead bread, and hot chocolate. We made cultural paper-flower headbands and Muertos inspired face painting. This program was our first bilingual English-Spanish program.
