East Side Arts Alliance
Located in the San Antonio district of Oakland, CA, EastSide Arts Alliance & Cultural Center is a dynamic arts center run by POC artists. Created in 2003, the Cultural Center offers a variety of programs and public art projects that include murals, mosaics, and community block parties. The EastSide collective has fostered numerous artistic projects over the past 20 years, providing a space that fosters empowerment, shares significant works of art, and cultivates dialogue that empowers our people. Spanning all of the artistic disciplines, the Cultural Center has a theater space ideal for live music presentations, a gallery space, studios, and Bandung Books; a third world community bookstore.
In 2014 Naganuma founded the GIRL Project, an art and empowerment program for middle schoolers at Eastside Cultural Center. The center provides a unique opportunity for youth to see themselves reflected in the artistic and administrative staff that work there. It is a place that allows for cultivation of a place that they can feel at home at while strengthening the intergenerational community.
